Easter Egg Hunt!

Love nature?

Enjoy finding random things?

How about a good ol' fashioned EASTER EGG HUNT!?

There are TONS of options available when it comes to choosing an activity regarding Easter. With such a diverse pool of cultures within British Columbia comes a plethora of choices to select from.

If you've got your own transportation, the selection process only increases but with that it adds more opportunity to visit places that may have otherwise never been found before.

Whonnock Lake is about a 10 minute drive away from Maple Ridge, BC. To get there depends on where you're coming from but if you can find your way to Maple Ridge, you can find your way to Whonnock Lake; once you're in Maple Ridge, the path to this memorable place begins on Dewdney Trunk Road. Once you reach this main road of Ridge, it's easiest to GPS "Whonnock Lake" and follow the directions there. If you're out of luck here, try to memorize the route when you have wifi!
In simplest form is the following:

  • Head down Dewdney Trunk Road until you reach 272nd Street and take a right turn
  • Follow and turn left on 112 Avenue
  • Left turn on 276th Street and follow the road to the lake.

With pocketed areas of cell phone reception available, its an ideal location to escape the daily grind of our lives to enjoy the simplicity of life. Hiking trails everywhere, kayak rentals available, a specialized dog area and a large beach for the kids to play, the location offers a little something for everyone.

BUT!

This weekend has a little extra fun...

Whether you have kids or are just a big kid yourself, Whonnock Lake is hosting its very own Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday April 1st, 2018 beginning at 11:00 AM. Having not participated in the hunt ourselves, one can only speculate it should be a fun-filled few hours of spending time deep within the wooded areas of our beautiful province.

If you're interested in joining along, there is a phone number to call prior to attendance and can be found via this link.

Happy Hunting!

Kelowna Camping

Planning trips are never easy, especially if they involve a lot of people. With "Spring Break" fast approaching, ideas for short getaways with the family or friends can become quite hectic.

Camping and hiking are fun events that can be done during the break. Usually a well received suggestion, camping can be either for a short duration or a long duration. Before planning and booking it is best to understand the types of people who are in your family or friend group as everyone has different tolerances to camping.

Below are some ideas to get you started, that can help ease this annoying process if camping and hiking interests you.

For those who do not mind traveling, Kelowna has many campsites that would be suitable for a group or a pair of people. One of my favorite location to go to in spring and summer, Kelowna has many activities to do even though it is considered a small city.

A campsite I suggest for RV or trailers is the Heartland Family Campground. I suggest a short stay here and also for experienced campers. When I went to this campsite I had no issues but I have heard some horror stories about this ground so it is best to proceed at own risk.

My next campsite is for those who need something to do during their stay. The Willow Creek Family Campground is again for those who experienced campers (such that they do not need to shower, etc). This campgrounds main highlight is that it is close to a shopping center and beach for those who wish to have activities to do.

Though these are described above there are many other campsites that are used, just make sure you know what you want.

There's a SECRET in Maple Ridge, BC.

There's a SECRETin Maple Ridge, British Columbia.

Not many know of this unique and wondrous location.

In our previous blog posts, we've covered Alouette Lake which itself is magical. The energy that can be felt when standing ashore the lake can only be described by feeling it.

Golden Ears Parkway is the road that leads you towards Alouette Lake and its most certainly recommended to visit.

BUT!

If you're taking the journey down Golden Ears Parkway, you may as well venture just a bit further and head to
Gold Creek Falls:

As we all know, videos/photos do no justice to the actual experience. Alas, a brief description of the journey may help to push some into this place.

As you park in the lot, a place to "relieve yourself" is available before you trek towards the falls.
There are two options to get to the falls; one is obviously harder and longer of a hike and the other is fairly easy:

  1. The harder path has you paralleling the path on the mountain-side with long uphill sections. Eventually a small sign will point down the mountain along a one-person wide, almost hidden trail that leads through the brush. After a battle through the bush along the trail, you discover a path at the bottom and find yourself at Gold Creek Falls. You'll most likely take the easier path back towards the parking lot.
  2. The easier path is fairly wide, easy enough to walk side-by-side with another while passing another couple doing the same. The terrain of the walkway is fairly smooth, easy enough to walk or even run with a stroller. Ups and downs make it a small workout for those not as active. After roughly thirty minutes, you reach the falls.

Energy; Alouette lake has this natural energy but pales in comparison to standing by the falls and feeling the mist hit your skin, the sound of water crashing and rushing into and down the mountain.

If you go, document it for yourself to always look back and remember.

Because you certainly won't forget.
